Thiebaud is an American painter known for his pop style. I was instantly attracted to his work. It’s very graphic, colorful and his subject matter can put an instant smile on your face. He’s largely known for his paintings of pies, cakes and other pastries, sometimes whole cases of them. He’d also paint old-time gum ball and pinball machines. A bit later on he delved into cityscapes as well as landscapes. Today he is 95 years old and still painting. I think art has had a positive effect on him, I know his work has had a positive effect on me. Why a large lollipop over his face? He’s not that recognizable to most people and I thought it’d be fun to take one of my subjects and do a Magritte.
