I think I knew Jules Verne first through the movies made of his books but as a result, I went on to read many of his novels. You know what they say? The book is usually better than the movie and that’s definitely the case with Verne. But those movies usually made in the 60s with low budgets were a blast as well. Journey to the Center of the Earth with its fantastical tale of explorers encountering all kinds of strange things including living dinosaurs and I loved the super-sized bees and crabs in The Mysterious Island. Stuff right up my alley as a 10 year old boy.
Just some of his books; Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, The Mysterious Island, From the Earth to the Moon, The Master of the World and Around the World in Eighty Days.
He really was a man before his time.
