Musician, Song Writer
Let’s face it, like his music or not, he was an innovator. I must admit I wasn’t an instant fan of Hendrix. He developed a technique of distortion and feedback that was totally new. At first it just sounded like a lot of noise to me but the more you listened the more you realized he was an amazing player, a sonic virtuoso. And as a songwriter he crafted some real gems, Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Voodoo Chile and he transformed Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower into a serious rocker.
Jimi is consistently at the top of “Best Guitarists” lists even to this day, 46 years after his death. If you’re ever in Seattle, check out the Hendrix exhibit at the EMP museum; http://www.empmuseum.org/
