George Carlin

Comedian, Actor

When I was young I’d see George Carlin on talk shows, variety shows etc. Back then he was pretty straight looking, short hair, suit and tie. He would perform funny bits like “Hippy Dippy Weatherman, Al Sleet”, “Tonight’s forecast . . . dark. Continued darkness through the night” but they were tame compared to what he would do later on.

When I was about 14 my relatives were visiting, aunts and uncles, cousins and somebody gave me a George Carlin comedy album that contained the bit, “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television” Since some of my cousins were young my mom made me listen to it while wearing headphones. When the “Seven Words . . ‘ bit came on I started to lose it, laughing so hysterically there were tears rolling down my face. Everybody in the room is looking at me with a curious look on their faces which made me laugh even more.

I became a huge George Carlin fan from that moment on and he just got better and better as the years went by. I was amazed how he could memorize full routines with tons of words without missing a beat.
