The Art of Russell Pierce

The Beats or Beat Generation was a literary movement started by a group of authors in the 1950s. I first read Jack Kerouac’s book, On The Road many years after it was written and as a result delved into some of the other authors associated with the movement; Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and Neal Cassady. The writers initially assembled in Greenwich Village NYC in the late 50s where “The Scene” was starting to happen. Cafe’s and folk clubs became the gathering place for all kinds of artists looking to express themselves in new ways through art, literature and music.
