Ringo Starr

Musician

I first became aware of The Beatles with their hit I want to hold your hand which was obviously followed by tons more hits over the years. Ringo was so cool behind that black oyster pearl Ludwig set shaking his head while keeping that beat on tempo. As The Beatles grew musically over the years with albums like Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper etc., Ringo evolved as well, providing complex rhythms and fills as the songs grew more dense and complex. He was never regarded as a technical drummer like Buddy Rich or Neal Peart but he always managed to provide just the right beat. Rolling Stone magazine lists him as #14 out of the 100 greatest rock drummers of all time. John Lennon and his acerbic wit might disagree. When asked if he thought Ringo was the greatest drummer in the world, John replied, “He’s not even the greatest drummer in The Beatles” referring to McCartney’s skill on the skins. Ringo is still going strong today, touring with his band, Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band.
